It did occur to me that the emails were being erroneously caught in the spam filters (and, as you both suspected, they were) however, I did attempt to check and, for whatever reason, didn’t find any email from red-sweater.com (or Daniel). I guessing there was some sort of failure in whatever I was doing to check, as, after checking today, voila! I have no less than 3 emails from Daniel with my code.

I suspect that you have a broken spam filter that is blocking legitimate emails. I’ve had problems with this as well (sending out registration codes to customers). GMail has been particularly bad lately, and then Earthlink has had their silly challenge system for ages now. Many folks forget to whitelist accounts and/or domains that they expect to get a email from.

Hi David – I’m glad I stumbled upon this page (thanks for linking to me, so I noticed the referral!).

As you can probably imagine, a situation like you’re experiencing ranks high on the list of “things we never want our customers to go through.”

It’s a classic problem in the software development world. It’s relatively rare, thankfully. But when it happens, of course it’s infuriating to both customer and developer. What happens is somehow, for some reason, the email channel breaks down between developer and customer. So the developer is diligently trying to make sure things are right, but the customer is not receiving any of the emails.

Usually it’s caused by spam filters. I’m lucky in this case to have the opportunity to respond in your blog (hopefully it’s not filtered ).

The original email including your code did go out a few minute after you purchased Black Ink, on April 21. The response to your inquiry went out on April 29.

So how do I get into private communication with you? Is it possible you have a spam filter you could check for my emails? Can you white-list support at red-sweater.com? I will try again from a different email address now.

We’ll get this sorted out.
